Debbie’s Golden Rule #14 – Play at a nice pace. Everyone is entitled to take time, but don’t make me get out the egg timer!

Golden Rule #14: Play at a nice pace. Everyone is entitled to take time, but don’t make me get out the egg timer!

Let’s take a look at how we can play the game of Mah Jongg and learn Mah jongg etiquette with with Golden Rule #14:

As a new player, it is often hard to make quick decisions, especially when figuring out what to pass during the Charleston. If everyone at the table is a new player, then no one will mind waiting if someone takes a bit longer than usual to make a move. However, if you have been playing for quite some time and each time it is your turn, you hold up the game then you might want to consider brushing up on things. Maybe take a few Mah Jongg lessons like an Advanced Beginner or a Strategy class at the School of American Mah Jongg. Or, you might want to refresh your skills by reading my book Unlocking the Secrets of American Mah Jongg.

BUT . . . WHAT IF?

Of course, there are times we have multiple hands with which to work. Sometimes it can be a bit daunting figuring out which of those hands might be the best option. And even when we finally decide to go in one direction and give tiles away during the Charleston that we don’t need, we receive ones that tell us our decision went array. As well, once you complete the Charleston, you might need a bit more time to figure things out during your turn. Yes, a bit more time is one thing, but…please don’t let me take out my egg timer!!

Stay tuned for another Golden Rule in an upcoming blog, and don’t forget to read the previous blogs as well! Be sure to keep my Golden Rules handy. If you think someone needs a little help with their habits or behaviors, you can pull out your sheet and say, “Hey guys, look what the teacher says!” As for me, the teacher, I mess up too from time to time! Why? Because we are all human and as they say, “To err is human.” If at the least you can become conscious of some of the Golden Rules, then you are on our way to change!

Now that you have some tools to play the game of Mah Jongg with my Golden Rules,  you will learn Mah Jongg with confidence!

Happy Mahjongging, everyone!
