Driven by a lifelong passion to challenge herself with new and diverse experiences, Debbie Barnett embodies an entrepreneurial spirit that has led her to establish several successful businesses. In her early twenties, she started a hand-knit kids ware line that developed into a full-fledged business, Designs by Debbie. Then, after twenty years working in the insurance industry, Debbie left the 9-5 grind to devote her time to building D & L Property Investments, a successful real estate investment business specializing in helping those in her community resolve mortgage debt by mitigating foreclosures.
Today, unwilling to hit the brakes on her ambitions and settle into quiet retirement, Debbie is still working part-time as a Realtor and an American Mah Jongg instructor. While Debbie’s entrepreneurial spirit along with her creative side has led her to several successful businesses, it has now led her to pursue her love for writing. An avid reader and lover of words, she is inspired by the impact of a good book. As a firm believer in the motto, “It’s better late than never,” Debbie now dedicates much of her time to writing as she embarks on the journey of becoming a published author.
Debbie has just completed her first book, Unlocking the Secrets of American Mah Jongg, a step-by-step, illustrated guide on how to play American Mah Jongg inspired by watching her mother play as a young child which led to her learning and loving the game as an adult. In addition to this “How-To” book, Debbie created the first time ever, virtual and interactive American Mah Jongg school which opened up online in January of 2020. Debbie is also in the process of writing a memoir, which she hopes to publish by 2020.
